A short article that advises:
Two of the most important things to know before you go into an interview:
Why do you want to go to college? And of all the colleges on Earth, why this one?
Make sure you can flatter the interviewer with a personalized answer that is unique to that college or university.
Why are you a good match for this college?
Don’t ever leave an interview before you can answer this question, whether it was asked explicitly or not.
I am not convinced that the interview is as important as the author indicates: Quality control is very difficult when using a wide array of alumni. That said, MIT reports acceptances rates that differ:
- 6% for applicants who did not interview
- 16% for those who did.
I love how they keep stats like this at MIT. Keep in mind, that the interview for scholarship, Oxbirdge or UK medicine is fundamentally important.
