Bill Belew over at The Biz of Knowledge offers four reasons NOT to study in Europe:
1. It’s different - In Europe, class hours are minimal and students must motivate themselves as opposed to relying on being spoonfed.
2. It’s different - Students unions are the social life instead of fraternities and sororities, large-scale college sports and such.
3. It’s different - the application process is different. For example students apply for up to six schools at UCAS.ac.uk in hopes of getting into one.
4. It’s different - scholarship money is not so readily available if at all. Sally Mae International can help out. salliemae.com

University College Utrecht - Welcome to University College Utrecht:

University College Utrecht (UCU) is the international Honors College of Utrecht University. It offers students a residential setting in which the foundations are laid for their academic and/or professional careers. The College provides its students with unequaled opportunities for academic, cultural and social achievements. It offers a unique educational experience designed to teach students how to communicate effectively and think critically and creatively.
With room and board and expenses including tution for someone outside of the EU, it comes in at about 17,000 Euros (
For EU students, it comes in under 12,000 Euros. And they offer financial Aid and scholarships to some international students. US students can apply through FAFSA.

About Erasmus University:

Erasmus University Rotterdam is an international knowledge workshop for critical thinking and academic training, driven by a strong focus on current social issues. The university concentrates its expertise on issues of management, organisation and policy in the public and private sectors on the one hand, as well as on the field of sickness and health care. Costs are similiar to Utrecht.

European University : BUSINESS SCHOOL - MBA BBA - GENEVA - BARCELONA - MUNICH:

TU Delft - Bachelor of Science:

The Bachelor programmes are taught in Dutch, except for Aerospace Engineering which is taught in both Dutch and English. The Institute of Technology & Communication provides Dutch language courses for foreigners. Costs are about 10,000 Euros.

International University Bremen: About IUB:

3) Among the best hotel and hospitality management programs anywhere:

The Economist publishes a Quality of Life Index each year. In 2005, all of the top ten countries were in Europe. Of the top 20, only 6 came outside of Europe.

No in fairness to Bill, he did say he would still rather study abroad even with his four reasons not to.

I love your site. Thanks for all the info. I have to add, though, that European University’s accreditation status is iffy, especially in Barcelona. i had a student attend there, against my recommendation, and he too found that other universities would not accept his credits when he decided to transfer.
