Many international students hope that their education abroad will give them a leg up–for some this is also synonomous with beginning a life in a new country. USA has long had their optional practical training period of one year after you graduate. This has been increased to29 months for some occupations, but it is unclear how those students would fare in an immigration program. Australia and Canada on the other hand have taken a much more aggressive approaches allow students to work on and off campus and staying 2 years beyond the degree. Lots more at inside high ed.
