Dartmouth received 51 more early applications this year when compared with last — 1,600, as compared with 1,549 — for its binding program. It also chose to accept 60 more applicants — 461 to 401. But before one concludes that there will be fewer seats available to applicants for the regular pool at Dartmouth, consider this: It intends to add about 50 seats to the freshman class, for a total of about 1,150. About 60 percent of the seats in the next freshman class remain up for grabs
Duke: received a 30 percent spike in applications — an increase of more than 500, when compared with last year, for a total of 2,012. Acceptances went up too: 602 applicants were accepted, an increase of 19 over last year. Still, at Duke, at least, the rate of admission for early decision went down this year — 31 percent, as compared to 38 percent. The percentage of remaining slots in the next freshman class was relatively stable: about 65 percent, of a class of about 1,700.
Yale — 5,262 applications -a drop of more than 300 when compared with last year.
Amherst (binding): 438 early applications, compared with 444 last year, minus 6; 147 acceptances compared with 138 a year ago, plus 9; total anticipated class size: about 465.
Middlebury (binding, first of two rounds): 653 early applications, compared with 648 last year, plus 5; 262 acceptances (including some for fall 2010, and others for winter 2011), compared with 274 last year, minus 12. total anticipated class size: about 700, including students matriculating in fall and winter
Northwestern (binding): 1,776 early applications, compared with 1,595 last year, plus 181; 618 acceptances compared with 590, plus 28; total anticipated class size: about 2,025.
Wesleyan (binding, first of two rounds): about 500 early applications, roughly the same as last year; 237 acceptances, compared with 239 last year, minus 2; total anticipated class size: about 745.
Williams (binding): 541 early applications, compared with 614 last year, minus 73; 212 acceptances compared with 232 last year, minus 20.
Brown–“Early applications to Brown are up 21 percent from last year, according to Jim Miller ’73, dean of admission. They numbered over 2,850 at the Nov. 1 deadline, he said, up from 2,343 last year”
Columbia–applications for early decision increased by 2%, to 2,995; 631 were accepted, for an admit rate of 21%.
Bowdoin: –up 3.2 percent from last year’s figure. Out of the ED I pool, 184 students were accepted, 143 were deferred to regular decision, 180 were denied admission, and three applications were incomplete, yielding a total of 510 applications, and an acceptance rate of 36 percent.
Penn–received 3,842 applications — more than a 6-percent increase compared to last year’s pool,
Rice University is reporting a 26% increase in Early Decision applications. As always, the university plans to accept approximately 30% of these applicants.
STANFORD:5,556 early admits–753 admits (13%) not counting deferred early applicants to be admitted later. The early admits will fill more than 40% of the seats in the Class of 2014
Swarthmore (binding, first of two rounds): 292 applications, compared to 302 last year, -10; 129 acceptances, compared to 126, +3; total anticipated class size: about 385

Hamilton (binding, first of two rounds): 356 applications to date (including some for round 2), compared to 377 on this date last year, -21; 150 acceptances (round 1), compared to 167 last year, -17; total anticipated class size: about 480
Emory (binding): 709 applications, roughly same as last year; 350 early acceptances, compared to 331 last year, +19; total anticipated class size: about 1,285

Cornell (binding): 3,579 early applications, compared to 3,443 last year, +136; 1,167 acceptances, compared to 1,264 last year, -103; total anticipated class size: about 3,150.

Columbia (binding, figures for Columbia College and School of Engineering): 2,995 early applications, compared to 2,942 last year, +53; 631 acceptances, compared to 639, -8; total anticipated class size not specified.
Grinnell (binding, first of two rounds): 176 early applications, compared to 175 last year, +1; 90 acceptances, compared to 107, -17; total anticipated class size: 390,
