Now that the offers have come in, how do you decide which one is right for you? Pick the highest rank and be done with it? Roll some dice? Pick the one with the best weather? All make sense depending who you are, but I would encourage a little more invovled decision making:
-
How does this college fit with your original reasons for going to college? -
What is the quality of life and experience on campus like? -
How strong are the teaching, majors, student services etc. -
What do people who go there think? -
What do students do after graduation?
If you like the questions, you will love how to find the answers in the International Counselor’s Guide to Evaluating Colleges. in which we look at specifically the following areas
As I designed this website last year, two notable omission: Unigo, a student review site. Unigo came on line last fall and I have found it a wonderful resource for students trying to explore different colleges. The second one was actually created by me with tremendous help from group of parents. It is a spread sheet with the links of 400 colleges and universities’ web 2.0 pressence, specifically:
- Youtube
- Podcasts
- blogs
These often will give you an authentic look into colleges and what you can expect there.
